Art cannot be explained.
But it can be taught.

For years, the question I receive most often is not "how much does a painting cost?" but "how did you get here?" The answer doesn't fit in a conversation or an interview.

This presentation was created to answer that question honestly: showing the path, the references, the aesthetic decisions and the thinking that built The Aesthetics of Childhood from its first intuitions to the series it is today.

"I find in the aesthetics of childhood the most perfect and universal way to talk about the human being." — César Guerrero

What you'll learn
in this presentation

A sequence of slides and videos narrated by the artist himself, organised so that anyone — regardless of their level of knowledge of art — can follow the thread and understand not just the work, but the thinking behind it.

01

Creativity and the artistic process

How a visual idea is born, how it develops, and how decisions are made in the studio. The real process behind the works.

02

Art history in context

The masters who forged the classical visual language, how they dialogue with contemporary work, and why that dialogue matters.

03

Classical painting and sculpture

Visual analysis of both the artist's works and historical references: anatomy, light, composition, and the formal language underpinning each piece.

04

The visual language of the series

Why childhood as a concept, what each visual element symbolises, and how to read the work beyond its surface appearance.

"I find in the aesthetics of childhood the most perfect and universal way to talk about the human being. Not as nostalgia, but as language."

One of the fundamental purposes of this presentation is to place on public record an aesthetic and conceptual proposition without precedent in art history: the systematic and deliberate use of childhood iconography as a system of philosophical and visual thought.

There exists no series in world art that has built, with this level of coherence and rigour, a conceptual language based on childhood as a total metaphor for the human being. This presentation also clarifies in detail why this proposition is radically different from any artist who has included children in their work — the difference is not one of decorative motif, but of complete philosophical system.

Voices on the work

César Guerrero — Artist

César Guerrero

Colombian visual artist trained in the classical tradition of painting and sculpture. His work springs from a rigorous study of anatomy, composition and Western art history, building a language that is distinctly and recognisably his own.

His principal series, The Aesthetics of Childhood, explores the human condition through the figure of the child as a universal symbol — a conceptual proposition that has received international recognition.
